India will host 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas in Indore of Madhya Pradesh

Selected overseas Indians will be honoured with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to recognize their contributions to various fields both in India and abroad.

India will host 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas in Indore after a gap of two years, said External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Rajya Sabha. The government of India is going to organize The 17th PBD Convention will be held from 8 – 10 January 2023 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The theme of the 17th PBD is “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal”. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated once in every two years to strengthen the engagement of the overseas Indian community with the Government of India and reconnect them with their roots.
During the Convention, selected overseas Indians are also honoured with the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award to recognize their contributions to various fields both in India and abroad. Significantly, the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2023 will take place in January in Indore. Every year on the 9th of January, the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas holiday is observed to honour the contribution of the Indian community living abroad who contributes to the growth of India. Additionally, it honours Gandhi’s journey back to India from South Africa on the 9th of January, 1915. Since 2015, its structure has changed to recognize Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) once every 2 years and to organize Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Conferences with involvement from policymakers, stakeholders, and experts from the abroad community.
